About Věra Jirousová Award

The Věra Jirousová Award was established in 2012 and is named after Czech poetess, art critic and art historian Věra Jirousová (1944 – 2011). The purpose of the Award, intended for both emerging and already established art critics, is to highlight this field, hitherto scarcely reflected upon, in the Czech milieu, to support beginning authors and help them find first opportunities to publish their texts. At the same time, we wish to point out the works of those authors who have been a long-term contribution to the field of art criticism. Each year there is one winner in each category, chosen by a jury consisting of prominent Czech theoreticians, writers, and artists. There is also a broad accompanying program, featuring discussions and round tables, workshops, lectures etc.
