D\u016fraz bude kladen na rozvoj vlastn\u00edho kritick\u00e9ho hlasu, pr\u00e1ci s jazykem a porozum\u011bn\u00ed o\u010dek\u00e1v\u00e1n\u00edm redakce. Workshop se kon\u00e1 v r\u00e1mci doprovodn\u00e9ho programu Ceny V\u011bry Jirousov\u00e9 a je ide\u00e1ln\u00ed p\u0159\u00edle\u017eitost\u00ed pro ty, kte\u0159\u00ed zva\u017euj\u00ed p\u0159ihl\u00e1\u0161ku do kategorie pro za\u010d\u00ednaj\u00edc\u00ed kritiky a kriti\u010dky IX. ro\u010dn\u00edku sout\u011b\u017ee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00da\u010dast na workshopu je bezplatn\u00e1 a je nutn\u00e9 ji potvrdit skrze vypln\u011bn\u00fd formul\u00e1\u0159: https:\/\/forms.gle\/ZFP775YMAbyuLP7p7<br \/>\nDoporu\u010dujeme p\u0159in\u00e9st si vlastn\u00ed text, kter\u00fd chcete konzultovat, jeho nahr\u00e1n\u00ed prob\u00edh\u00e1 skrze toto\u017en\u00fd formul\u00e1\u0159.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Helena Todorov\u00e1<\/strong> (1996) je kriti\u010dka, kur\u00e1torka a teoreti\u010dka sou\u010dasn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed. Vystudovala D\u011bjiny um\u011bn\u00ed na Masarykov\u011b univerzit\u011b v Brn\u011b, v sou\u010dasnosti pokra\u010duje ve studiu Teorie a d\u011bjin modern\u00edho a sou\u010dasn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed na UMPRUM. Aktu\u00e1ln\u011b je redaktorkou Artalku, kde edituje a p\u00ed\u0161e o sou\u010dasn\u00e9m v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9m um\u011bn\u00ed. Od roku 2025 p\u016fsob\u00ed jako asistentka v ateli\u00e9ru Voln\u00e9 um\u011bn\u00ed II na UMPRUM. Absolvovala zahrani\u010dn\u00ed st\u00e1\u017e v Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ei, pracovala pro FaVU VUT, p\u0159edt\u00edm byla sou\u010d\u00e1st\u00ed t\u00fdmu ve Va\u0161ulka Kitchen Brno a v platform\u011b pro performativn\u00ed um\u011bn\u00ed Ter\u00e9n. Kur\u00e1torsky se pod\u00edlela nap\u0159\u00edklad na v\u00fdstav\u011b Spole\u010dn\u011b a potaj\u00ed v Galerii Off Format, na v\u00fdstav\u00e1ch v Galerii Nika, Hidden UMPRUM nebo Pragovka Gallery \u010di na kolektivn\u00ed v\u00fdstav\u011b Hit the Deck v \u00dan\u011btick\u00e9m \u0161pejcharu. On the cover is a man wearing sun glasses and swimming trunks sitting in a deck chair under a parasol, a long drink next to him, but around him is not the beach, but a gloomy, grey industrial landscape of smoking chimneys. The title is a quote from a conspiracy thriller called <em>The Day of the Jackal <\/em>(1973), about a far-right terrorist assassination attempt on Charles de Gaulle. The crises of the 1970s are a premonition of our contemporary crises of the 2020s because they are at least partly the same: the striving for individual pleasure and gratification, if not freedom per se, takes place against a looming background of unhinged capitalism and authoritarian populism, of climate catastrophe and war. \u201eCriticism\u201c, in the very root of the word, is defined by crisis: <em>krisis <\/em>in Greek means to distinguish and judge. So how do we need to readjust our criteria of judgment not only vis-\u00e0-vis contemporary art, but the cultural landscape in general, if, for example, an unhinged billionaire can just buy and destroy one of the most important global platforms of debate, or Russia decides to invade and destroy the Ukraine? But for art critics to even make these readjustments, they need to exist in the first place: so what are the rescue plans for an endangered species?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">J\u00f6rg Heiser is a critic and curator, and the Director of the Institute for Art in Context at the University for the Arts in Berlin, Germany. For twenty years, he was an editor at <em>frieze<\/em> magazine. He continues to write, amongst others, for <em>art-agenda.com<\/em> and <em>republik.ch<\/em>. Most recently he curated, together with Cristina Ricupero, the exhibition <em>Ridiculously Yours! M\u00e1 dnes takov\u00e1 snaha v\u016fbec smysl? Je v t\u00e9to \u00e9\u0159e nep\u0159ehledn\u00e9ho oce\u00e1nu jazyka internetu mo\u017en\u00e9 podchytit my\u0161lenku na um\u011bleck\u00e9 d\u00edlo prost\u0159ednictv\u00edm p\u00e1r normostran textu? Nebo n\u00e1m ji\u017e posta\u010d\u00ed internetov\u00e9 memy a s\u00ed\u0165 referenc\u00ed s nimi spojen\u00e1?<br \/>\nKritika sou\u010dasn\u00e9ho um\u011bn\u00ed je v \u010desk\u00e9m kontextu v\u016fbec obt\u00ed\u017en\u011b vymeziteln\u00e1 a r\u016fznorod\u011b ch\u00e1pan\u00e1 oblast aktivity, jej\u00ed\u017e priority, c\u00edle i smysl si \u0159ada z n\u00e1s p\u0159edstavuje zna\u010dn\u011b odli\u0161n\u011b. Tato amorfnost m\u00e1 jist\u011b i sv\u00e9 v\u00fdhody \u2013 ka\u017ed\u00fd si zde hypoteticky m\u016f\u017ee nal\u00e9zt svou vlastn\u00ed cestu za v\u00fdkladem, interpretac\u00ed \u010di souzen\u00edm sou\u010dasn\u00e9ho vizu\u00e1ln\u00edho um\u011bn\u00ed. Nap\u0159\u00edklad v\u00a0roce 1982 muzeum MoMA uvedlo kontroverzn\u00ed v\u00fdstavu \u201cPrimitivism\u201d\u00a0in\u00a020th\u00a0Century Art: Affinity of the Tribal and the Modern\u00a0(Primitivismus v\u00a0um\u011bn\u00ed dvac\u00e1t\u00e9ho stolet\u00ed: Podobnost mezi kmenov\u00fdm um\u011bn\u00edm a\u00a0modernou). Nadneslo tak mo\u017enost hledat nez\u00e1padn\u00ed stopy v\u00a0modern\u00edm um\u011bn\u00ed, ov\u0161em nakonec touto v\u00fdstavou ospravedlnilo univerz\u00e1ln\u00ed k\u00e1non d\u011bjin um\u011bn\u00ed. Parafr\u00e1zujeme-li v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9ho kritika Thomase McEvilleyho, tak \u00fa\u010delem takov\u00e9ho teoretizov\u00e1n\u00ed je zabr\u00e1nit velk\u00fdm mezer\u00e1m v\u00a0d\u011bjin\u00e1ch z\u00e1padn\u00edho um\u011bn\u00ed a zachovat jeho tradice neposkvrn\u011bn\u00e9, neporu\u0161en\u00e9 a neznesv\u011bcen\u00e9 nez\u00e1padn\u00edmi vlivy.<\/p>\n<p>Pt\u00e1me se tedy: Kde a kdy vlastn\u011b Z\u00e1pad za\u010d\u00edn\u00e1?\u00a0Lze jej\u00a0ur\u010dit geograficky? However, the very notion of \u201cthe West\u201d has been put in doubt due to historical misconceptions, theoretical prejudices and colonial power relations, making it nearly impossible to accept \u201cnon-Western\u201d as an agreed upon term.<\/p>\n<p>These doubts have been raised for a long time. For example, in 1982, the MoMA presented the controversial exhibition: \u201cPrimitivism\u201d in the 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Century Art: Affinity of the Tribal and the Modern, where they proposed to look for non-Western traces in modern art, and in doing so, ended up justifying a universal canon of art history. Paraphrasing the art critic Thomas McEvilley: The purpose of such theorizing is to preclude major breaks in Western art history; its tradition is to remain intact, not pierced and violated by influence from outside the West.<\/p>\n<p>So, where and when does the West actually begin? Is it possible to geographically pinpoint it? How then should we think about the tension between post-communist and post-colonial contexts in relation to Western art?<\/p>\n<p>On this panel we will discuss approaches in art criticism and curatorial practice that build upon a critical approach to the idea of \u201cthe West\u201d beyond a reading inscribed exclusively on geopolitical reductionism. The contributions will range from post-colonial approaches to the tradition of non-human thought and object oriented ontology, digging into experiences, which explore the possibility of critical writing and its relation to the idea of the west.<\/p>\n<p>* The title is based on Edouard Glissant\u00b4s quote: \u201cThe West is not the West.
